Today i would like to share learning clipping paths in photoshop. In this tutorial we want to give you fantastic tip's about clipping paths. So, let's get started...

Instructions

    • 1
Open your file and create a duplicate copy. Work on the copy and save the original file as a backup.
    • 2
Select the Pen tool on Photoshop CS4's floating tool palette. It looks like an old-fashioned nib pen and is about halfway down the palette. If your palette displays in two columns, it is in the left-hand column.
    • 3
Draw with the Pen tool. Create a straight line by clicking once where you want to start the path and clicking again to place your second point. Do not hold the mouse button down between clicks. Draw a curved line by clicking once to place your first point and holding down the mouse button. Drag the cursor and you will see handles radiating out from the point. Click on the handles and drag them to change the shape of the curve.
    • 4
Continue to outline the part of the image that you want to isolate. You will see the outline of the path as you create it. Each time you click, Photoshop CS4 places a dot on the image. When you are ready to connect the last dot to the first one, a small circle will appear next to the Pen tool icon on the screen. Click once, and your path is done.
    • 5
Open the Layers palette. Go to "Window" then "Layers," or press F7. This will bring up Layers, Channels and Paths. Click on the Paths palette tab to select it and bring it to the foreground. You will see a path named "Work Path." Click on the little triangle at the top right of the Path palette, and select "Save Path." Name your path.
    • 6
Click on the little triangle at the top right of the Paths palette. Select "Clipping Path," and in the menu that pops up, choose the path that you want to be your clipping path. Note that you can create more than one path in a document, but only one can be a clipping path. Allow Photoshop CS4 to use the default flatness. This indicates how closely Photoshop follows your path; the smaller the number, the truer it is to your path.
    • 7
Click on the Paths palette and select the clipping path you've drawn. Click on the triangle, and choose "Make Selection." Your clipping path will have a marquee around it. Go to "Select," choose "Inverse" and press the delete key. The background is now gone.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can create several paths in one image, but only one can be a clipping path.
  • If you're not happy with the path you've drawn, you can go back and edit the path's curves.
  • It takes some practice to get a feel for using the Pen tool, so take your time and don't get frustrated.
  • Make sure you close the path by connecting the last dot with the first.
